My take on Recovery night at theAlley

Last Tuesday night we had our first Recovery at theAlley.  As most everyone there, I was not sure what to expect.  To be honest, I went there hoping my presence would encourage others to be there but wasn’t thinking much about my own need.  I had the very attitude that I preached against last Sunday.  The idea that this is a good thing for “those” people and not for me.

This is one man’s take.  But I absolutely loved and appreciated it.  So much so, that I don’t care if no one else is there next week, I want to be there.  As Dustin clearly said, this is about identifying the sin, the struggles, the issues that have gotten in the way of our relationship with God.  This is NOT about a process that will save you from them.  It is about putting our trust in a Savior who can.  We pray for a continual sanctification of our hearts.

Yes, there were drunks there.  Yes, there were drug addicts there.  And… there were also people there struggling with their marriages.  People addicted to television.  People beat up by jealosy, pornography, workaholism and a host of other things.  The point being that it was a refreshing place where we could all take off our masks and deal with the real struggles of life in a God honoring way.  As Dustin said, “Whether your struggles are with a cupcake or a crackpipe, recovery is for everyone.

I’m so thankful for this ministry and praying that God will bless it.  Listen friends.  It’s okay to not be okay.  But it’s not okay to stay there.  Let’s all work together in our honest pursuit of God’s action and movement in our lives.

So, consider this your official invitation to join us Tuesday nights 7-9 for Recovery at theAlley.

BTW… childcare will be provided!
